Former Senior national team of Ghana, Black Stars doctor Dr. Adam Baba have revealed how injuries are sustained by local players in Ghana.

The Ghanaian having being with the national team and very close to the Ghana Football Association, have observed the pertaining issues worrying the players especially injuries.

The orthopaedic surgeon says though there is lack of database to injuries suffered by players in the Ghana Premier League but can confirm that, the situation of pitches various clubs play their matches on is not conducive and healthy for the players, hence, their injury cases.

According to him, lack of finance has handcuffed the Association from collecting data on injury situations and saving on the top-flight. However, the numerous cases of injury is as a result of the poor pitches.

He disclosed that, many of the injury situations recorded are angle injuries.

“In our case here, in our environment, we are prone to ankle injuries because of our pitches,” the veteran orthopaedic surgeon told Enoch Worlanyo in an interview on Asempa SportsNite.

Adam Baba added that;

“The Club Licensing Board of the GFA is aware of what they have to do to help the situation. If a pitch is rough and undulating we are not supposed to play on it. [However], we don’t have enough pitches so they just make do with what is available”

“It has been a long time since we did work on it but the predominant injuries are ankle injuries”

“It has been a long time since he collected data on injuries in our local league because we don’t have funding for data collection. We applied for funding for such projects years back but the response we got wasn’t encouraging. It is very important, but in our set-up, there are other things we need to do rather than this,” he concluded.
