CONFIRMED: Hearts of Oak SC league game with Asante Kotoko SC will serve as President Cup
The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), have resolved the decision to separate the President Cup from Hearts of Oak SC league game with Asante Kotoko SC next month after holding stakeholders meeting last week.
The President Cup which is played every season in honour of the President, is a game of prestige which is fixed in the calender year and played on it own under the organisation of GHALCA. It has never been played to serve two purpose till now.
The 2023 edition will see a league game played in purpose of two, thus league match and President Cup with a new whole format.
According to GHALCA, penalty shootout will determine the winner of the cup match if it ends in a draw.
Points will be shared among both teams for the league format before penalty shootouts deciding champion of the 2023 President Cup.
The two clubs will receive cash and medals as well as a trophy for the winner.
March 5, 2023 is scheduled for the encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium, home grounds of Hearts of Oak SC.
President of the land, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will be in attendance and will present the giant trophy to the winner.
Hearts of Oak SC are current holders of the bragging right after beating Asante Kotoko SC at home, thanks to Patrick Razak brilliant goal.
