The 20-year-old forward turn down an invite to join the Black Meteors camp for their TotalEnergies U-23 Africa Cup of Nations final qualification round game against Algeria.

Felix who trades with Italian Serie A side Cremonese earned a late invite to strengthen coach Ibrahim Tanko team but declined the invitation.

Assistant coach of the team, Michael Osei confirmed to , saying the Italian based forward could not join the rest of the team.

“Yes, Felix Afena-Gyan couldn’t join the team, very unfortunate but we have other foreign-based players already in”.

Ghana will take on Algeria in the 1st leg in
Annaba on Friday, March 24 2023 before reverse fixture in Kumasi on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 as they hope to book qualification for next TotalEnergies U-23 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

It also serves as qualifers of African countries for the Olympic football tournament with the top three teams of the tournament qualifying for the 2024 Summer Olympic men’s football tournament in Paris, the fourth place team will play the AFC-CAF playoffs to decide the final slot to the Olympics.

Meanwhile, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Zubairu Ibrahim, Salim Adams, Alex Sarfo, Emmanuel Essiam, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and Emmanuel Yeboah who trade their career in Europe have joined the team.
