Chris, 64, has officially being unveiled as Ghana’s new manager ahead of their upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United FC boss, had agreement with the Ghana Football Association weeks ago with contract signed but had to be unveiled to the West African Country.

On Monday, March 20, 2023 he was outdoor at a short ceremony held in Kumasi SG Mall at Ayigya.

Chris contract runs from now till December 31, 2024 which is a year and half but considered two seasons in football calender year. He will be assisted by Masawudu Dramani and George Boateng with same contract binding all.

He replaced Otto Addo who abandoned the coaching role after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, seeing Ghana finish bottom of Group H with 3 points. Hughton was serving as technical advisor to the team which had George Boateng, Masawudu Dramani and Otto Addo at the tournament.

“The contract is subjected to performance review as done in any institution. So we intend to review his performance and hand him an extension provided is necessary” Contract have being signed and we hope to work together”

“Meanwhile, he is obliged to travel to monitor players abroad with our support given to him anytime”, Ghana Football Association Communication director Henry Asante Twum said at the unveiling.

He’s being tasked to qualifier Ghana to the 2023 AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast and perform better at the tournament.

The Black Stars are in Group E alongside Angola, Madagascar and Central African Republic Ghana currently has four points, sitting top with Angola behind with four points.
