The Black Meteors of Ghana have booked their qualification to TotalEnergies U-23 Africa Cup of Nations tournament following a sweet 1-0 triumph over Algeria on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.
Algeria failed to rally from behind, after conceding the only goal of the encounter on the 11th minute and could not shine in both halves.
Sporting CP youngster Abdul Fatawu Issahaku scored to hand his nation all three maximum points at the famous Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The strike marked his second goal in two matches, after scoring the most important goal away in the first leg against Algeria.
With an aggregate of 2-1, Ghana has secured qualification to the next CAF U-23 Championship, following a 1-1 draw in the first fixture.
Ghana in 2019, eliminated Algeria but placed 4th in the CAF U23 Championship and could not make it to the Olympics.
The Olympic football team of Ghana, last played at 2004 Olympics in Athens but failed to qualify for 2008 edition in Beijing and 2012 in London but hopefully will sail through with Coach Ibrahim Tanko as head coach.
Ghana have made it to the Olympics six times, with best position coming in 1992, winning bronze. Their last participation in 2004, they lost 4-2 to Brazil in the quarter-finals.
