Recall Afena-Gyan to the Black Stars – Awudu Issaka tells Chris Hughton
Ghanaian youngster based in Italy, Felix Afena-Gyan has been absent in the senior national men’s team of Ghana since November, 2022 after helping Black Stars secure 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification.
The 20-year-old forward was snubbed in Ghana’s final 26-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and since then, missed out at Black Stars. In the March international break, new Ghana head coach Chris Hughton invited 25-man squad for their double-header Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola without the Cremonese striker.
He was part of Black Stars squad that qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar by eliminating Nigeria in the final playoff round. Afena-Gyan played in both legs which ended 1-1 in Abuja at the Moshood Abiola stadium.
Despite not scoring in the two legged tie, Afena-Gyan played an instrumental role as the striker of the Black Stars under coach Otto Addo but missed out in Qatar.
With new strikers on the block of Ghana like Iñaki Williams, Antoine Semenyo, Ransford Yeboah Königsdörffer, Afena-Gyan has not seen a call-up with recent call-up a case study.
Awudu Issaka popularly known as ‘Disco Dancer’ has urged Black Stars coach Chris Hughton to recall Felix Afena-Gyan back to the team.
“Afena-Gyan should be recalled to the Black Stars because he possesses some qualities that the current strikers lack,” he told Angel TV.
Felix days ago, rejected a call-up to Black Meteors after missing out of the Black Stars squad for the AFCON qualifiers. He dashed out the opportunity to play for the Ghana U-23 in the AFCON qualifiers against Algeria.
