Augustine Arhinful backs Chris Hughton to takeover Black Stars coaching job
Former Ghana international Augustine Arhinful has backed Chris Hughton to succeed Otto Addo as Black Stars coach.
The former Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur manager Chris Hughton having been with the Ghana national team for few months now have seen many urging him to takeover the Black Stars coaching job following the exit of Otto Addo.
Otto, due to his position with German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund resigned as Ghana coach after their exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Ghana following a 3-2 defeat to Uruguay in their last group game of the Mundial failed to progress to the knockout stage.
Though, the 47-year-old German-based tactician made it known his intention not to continue with Ghana after the tournament even before the World Cup started.
“It was always clear that I would stop after the World Cup. My family and I see our role in Germany. I like my life at (Borussia) Dortmund (where he works as a talent coach, and wants to carry on there.” Otto Addo said this after Ghana exit.
With Ghana coaching job vacant, former Ghana defender Augustine Arhinful has thrown his weight behind Chris Hughton, asking him to takeover the position.
“He was part of the technical team for the World Cup and I believe whatever he has learnt he has learnt. The challenges he has encountered and others, I am sure if given the job he can be his own man because I am people have whispered into his ears and he knows what he can do when given the job”
“It will not be out of place if he is given the job” he told Vision FM
Ghana finished the 2022 FIFA World Cup fourth in Group H after picking a win over South Korea and losing 3-2 and 2-0 to Portugal and Uruguay, respectively.
