Ghana captain Andre Ayew has finally spoken after missing an important penalty against Uruguay, denying Ghana qualification from Group H.

Ghana could have secured a knockout stage ticket with a draw against South America side Uruguay in their last group game at the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar but lost 2-0.

In the 21st minute, Ghana won a penalty following a poor tackle on Kudus Mohammed by Goalkeeper Sergio Rochet.

However, the opportunity to take the lead was squandered as the kick got saved by Uruguay goalkeeper Sergio Rochet.

The two-time World Champions went on to win the game 2-0 thanks to goals from Giorgio de Arrascaeta in the 26th and 32nd minutes of the game.

“We had the opportunity to get to the next stage, I missed the penalty. It’s difficult to take’’ Andre Ayew said.

‘’We did not get it right but I am very optimistic for the future.”

“I am sad but we will try and make it better’’ he added.
