Ghanaian heavyweight, Accra Hearts of Oak SC have left youngster Daniel Afriyie Barnieh to move away from the club after the player refused contract extension.

Barnie, 21, joined the Phobians on a two and half contract which will elapse on December 3, 2022. The club have made several efforts to extend the contract of the attacking midfielder but to no avail.

The Ghanaian has declined contract agreement and will leave as a free agent.

Already, several clubs in Europe have shown interest in signing him in January.

He was named in Ghana’s final 26-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Hearts have now given up in luring him stay with contract extension.

A member of the Capital based outfit, in an interview with Graphic Sports disclosed that the club finally decided to let the forward leave the club.

“He (Daniel Afriyie Barnieh) has still not signed a new contract and I had a discussion with the board chairman that if he doesn’t sign, nobody should call him; he should be allowed to go but his conscience would be his own judge,”

“If you can treat a club that brought you to prominence that way, then he can go because we made all the efforts we could for over three months, explaining to him the need to sign but he kept on dilly-dallying with us with his so-called manager, so if he wants to go he can go,” the source added.

The source added that following the decision from the player not to play for the club, the club have excluded him from the list of players they submitted to the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

“He wouldn’t like to sign and the only reason he wouldn’t like to sign is that he doesn’t want to play for the club, but one thing I’m sure about is that his name is not on the list of players we submitted to the FA,”

Barnieh is a member of the Black Galaxies squad in camp preparing for the 2023 African Nations Championship in Algeria.
