Abdul Salam Yakubu, the President of New Edubiase Football Club, has expressed dissatisfaction with the state of sports in Ghana, citing mismanagement under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government as a key factor in its decline.

The New Edubiase President’s comments come at the back of the ended 2024 General Elections where the NPP have been voted out of government and at a  time when sports in Ghana, particularly football, is under intense scrutiny.

Yakubu lamented the dwindling fortunes of Ghanaian sports over the years and accused successive sports ministers under the NPP administration of failing to address the challenges adequately.

“Our sports has declined over the years,” Yakubu stated. “The sports ministers under the regime of the NPP government did not help Ghana sports. In terms of football, they allowed the GFA [Ghana Football Association] to take advantage of them. A lot of bad things happened under their tenure.” He told Asempa FM.

He also expressed his joy for his brother, Adams Abdul-Salam who retained his seat at the New Edubiase Constituency.

“I’m happy for Adams. He did well in his first term at Parliament and I’m glad to have helped him campaign to retain his seat.” He said.
