Ghana defender Daniel Amartey says Ghana’s inability to beat Uruguay for 2022 FIFA World Cup knockout ticket was due to penalty miss from skipper Andre Ayew.

The West African Country had an early opportunity to punish the South American side following a poor tackle on Kudus Mohammed by Goalkeeper Sergio Rochet in the box but failed to make count the advantage as it got saved.

Al Sadd SC forward and Ghana captain Andre Ayew had poor technique attached to the ball, ending in the hands of the shot-stopper in the 21st minute.

Few minutes later, Uruguay banged in two goals before break and managed to hold unto it for a win.

Thanks to Giorgio de Arrascaeta brace.

Amartey, Leicester City told FIFA+ that, the penalty miss turned the game to Uruguay favour and dropping their levels.

“It changed the game. If we [had] scored, we would [have] gone ahead of them, but when he missed the penalty, they got their energy back… Our levels dropped.

“An early goal is most important, and if we had scored, they would have gone down”
