Burkinabe side Rail Club du Kadiogo have eliminated Asante Kotoko from the 2022/23 CAF Champions League at the first preliminary round.

The Ghanaian champions lost 3-1 on penalty shootout after the game ended 1-1 on aggregate.

Asante Kotoko lost the return fixture 1-0 on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The Porcupine Warriors won the first leg by the same score line away in Benin a week ago.

Kadiogo took the lead in Kumasi just 15 minutes into the game through Dramane Kambou and went into the break ahead.

Asante Kotoko came into the second-half searching for the equalizer but to no available.

Kadiogo held on to win 1-0 and the team to progress to the second preliminary round had to be decided on penalties as the game was tied 1-1 on aggregate.

Yussif Mubarik scored the first penalty of the shootout while Solomon Sarfo-Taylor, Nicholas Osei Bonsu, and Enoch Morrison missed the subsequent ones for Asante Kotoko.

Kadiogo went on to win 3-1 to progress to the second preliminary round.

Seydou Zerbo’s side will now have to turn their attention to the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League after failing to go past the first round in Africa.
